Administrative Assistant to the Chief Counsel (Confidential) Location Sacramento, CA : SEIU Local 1000 is a cutting-edge labor union that represents 96,000 state employees in nine bargaining units throughout the State of California. We are currently seeking a Confidential Administrative Assistant to the Chief Counsel in our Legal Department.
Duties: - Coordinates and integrates the work activities of the Legal Department and assists the Chief Counsel with ensuring completion of department legal objectives and court filings.
- Receives legal correspondence, pleadings, filings for the Chief Counsel, routes mail or response to appropriate parties and follows up to ensure completed actions.
- Maintains the Chief Counsel's calendar; screens visitors and callers and answers inquiries involving established procedures on routine matters.
- Schedules court appearances, hearings and meetings for Chief Counsel.
- Coordinates travel arrangements and accommodations for Chief Counsel.
- Coordinates the work flow with other departments or administrative staff; revises or clarifies procedures to resolve conflicts or eliminate duplication of work.
- Ensures that requests for actions or information are directed to appropriate staff as required.
- Assists the Chief Counsel and Assistant Chief Counsel with the creation and organization of regular department reports and correspondence.
- Analyzes legal information and assists in writing and preparing legal materials and presentations for court, legal hearings, conferences, workshops, conventions, meetings, mailings.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to maintain high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications: - Experience with all aspects of legal filings, court rules, administrative hearing requirements.
- Establish and maintain a customer service oriented rapport.
- Proficiency in MS applications (Excel, Access and Power Point).
- Ability to work and adapt to a fast paced environment.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent. AA degree.
- Ability to analyze problems, collect data and make sound, logical conclusions.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to type 65 words per minute.
- Ability to develop proficiency in software package(s) required by the department.
- Ability to set priorities.
