Job Summary:

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Risk Management serves as a key strategic leader responsible for overseeing and enhancing the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, with a primary focus on operational and third-party (vendor) risk. This role provides comprehensive risk oversight across all business functions, supports regulatory readiness, and drives a culture of informed, risk-aware decision-making at the executive level.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing refinement of a robust, enterprise-wide risk management program.
• Oversee operational risk assessments, control testing, issue management, and risk mitigation activities across departments
• Provide strategic direction and oversight for the third-party risk management program, including vendor due diligence, onboarding, monitoring, and contract risk evaluations.
• Partner with business units to proactively identify, assess, and address risks related to operations, vendors, cybersecurity, and compliance.
• Deliver timely and insightful risk reports and analysis to executive leadership, Board-level Risk Committees, and regulatory bodies.
• Maintain and evolve risk policies, procedures, and tools to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and industry best practices
• Lead investigations into risk incidents and conduct root cause analyses to develop and implement preventative measures
• Collaborate cross-functionally with departments including Audit, Legal, Compliance, and Information Security to strengthen the organization’s overall risk posture.

Experience:

• Advanced degree required (MBA, JD, or MS in Risk Management, Compliance, or related field).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in enterprise or operational risk management, preferably within the financial services or credit union sector.
• Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks and guidance (e.g., NCUA, OCC, CFPB, FFIEC) and third-party risk management best practices.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing enterprise risk strategies and engaging with executive leadership and Boards of Directors.
• Relevant certifications strongly preferred (e.g., CRCM, CRMA, CISA, or equivalent).
