Title Events and Retail Manager Direct Supervisor AVP of Culinary and Retail Operations Status Full-Time, Exempt Grade 13 #00200 Division Finance and Operations Department Dining Services No. Direct Reports 0 Target Weekly Hours 40 Location 2807 N Glebe (Main Campus) Benefits Eligibility Yes JOB SUMMARY The Events and Retail Manager position is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, entrepreneurial manager who is constantly seeking a better way to conduct business at Marymount's Saint 24 convenience store and on-site event spaces. The Manager will execute a variety of responsibilities, including the planning and supervision of special events, the maintenance of financial controls and payroll records, and the assurance of a successful retail food service operation. The Manager will develop proposals in response to requests for proposals (RFPs). Once new business has been secured, the Manager will collaborate with University's department heads and staff to provide top-notch service and pitch customers on incorporating Marymount programming into their conference or event. Additional duties for the Manager include delivering presentations, conducting seminars, and participating in meetings with clients, external vendors, or advisors. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Retail - Oversees daily administrative and operational tasks at Saint 24
- Manages all financials, including budget development, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Maintains knowledge of the market and trends
- Coordinates marketing efforts with business needs to maximize revenues and satisfaction
- Manages cost controls and control expenditures for the account
- Oversees sanitation and safety of assigned unit(s)
- Purchases and manages inventory
- Rolls out new culinary programs in conjunction with marketing and culinary team
Conferences and Events - Drives the generation of new revenue to the University through the identification, solicitation, and signing of new conferences and events while sustaining and nurturing the existing client base
- Fosters relationships at the executive level that will help grow and manage long term client relations
- Operational and creative oversight of all conference and events, working closely with culinary, custodial, and events set-up and take-down staff
- Handles conference and event logistics with ease, demonstrating high-energy, service-oriented, event execution and planning skills
- Ensures high guest satisfaction ratings by monitoring conferences and room sets, providing excellent real-time service during events, and delivering prompt, precise, and courteous communications
- Ensures special events are appropriately licensed, that all alcoholic beverages are served in accordance with University's policies, and that appropriate safety protocols are consistently enforced
- Anticipates problems that may affect client experience and financial requirements and moves quickly to correct them with little or no impact to guest relations or the operation
- Develops and maintains sales-centered website and social media presence
- Manages Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and other event and procurement based software.
- Establishes and monitors revenue and expense budgets, reconciling actuals against those budgets in a timely manner

JOB REQUIREMENTS Education - Culinary degree, or Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - 3-5 years supervisory experience in food service operations
- Knowledge of retail, food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
- Experience in university events management is highly desirable, as is experience working with high-level officials from public and private sectors
- Experience in establishing and nurturing long term business relationships
- Maintains composure, discretion, and professionalism in difficult situations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Accounting and marketing knowledge and experience; Excellent project management experience and ability to meet deadlines and manage project budgets
- Leadership, management and coaching skills; Capability to train others in event specific protocols and etiquette
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to outstanding customer service are expected
