Job Description

About Resident:

Resident is not a restaurant. We are a VC-backed culinary events platform that is reimagining where, when, and how people dine. We leverage the 'sharing' economy, similar to Uber and AirBnB, to host our Michelin-grade events in underutilized luxury spaces across NYC - and soon LA + Miami. Resident is a VC-backed startup that is growing quickly, and was recently ranked #391 on the INC 5000 List of fastest growing companies, and the #9 fastest growing hospitality brands.

Our chefs and sommeliers have experience at the world’s best restaurants, including: Eleven Madison Park, Noma, Per Se, and Meadowood. While the concept of a ‘pop-up’ isn’t new, our talent loves working with us because of our turnkey operational and marketing framework. We produce our events such that the talent can focus on curating the cuisine/beverage with a pre-set budget, and present it to our affluent audience.

Rather than operating in traditional commercial spaces, we partner with luxury real-estate developers that are interested in offering our programming as an amenity within their properties. The building receives a free, leading-edge experiential amenity that garners press and generates sales leads; and we receive a long-term, rent-free location to host building tenants, members of the public, and our private clients. We’ve partnered with LCOR, Related, RXR, and The Dermot Company, to name a few.

By reimagining the fixed costs of a traditional restaurant, Resident’s asset-light approach to an alternative way to dine will finally turn fine dining into a lucrative endeavor, all while elevating the next generation of culinary stars.

Our investors include: Valor Equity Partners, Bienville Capital (invested in: Zola, Qualia, and Ro), Quality Branded (Smith & Wollensky, Quality Italian), and Mike Kennedy (co-owner: Olmsted + Maison Yaki).

About the Role:

Resident is looking for a Event Operations Director (“EOD”). Our hire’s primary responsibility will be leading a squad of highly motivated, passionate Operations Managers (“OMs”) to flawlessly produce our experiences. The EOD will also be involved in the managing and recruiting additional team members. These team members are servers, bartenders, dishwashers, sommeliers, event leads (“EL’s). Our experiences typically fall into one of two formats: a seated dinner featuring a tasting menu and beverage pairing (typically 20-40 guests), or a reception style event featuring passed canapes, food stations, and an accompanying beverage component (typically 50-100 people). Our team of OMs and EL’s are responsible for successfully executing each event, and our hire will be responsible for the hiring, training, developing, and daily management of each of their squad’s EOMs. Our hire will deliver consistent coaching and feedback to their direct reports to instill the Company’s values in their team and ensure the consistent execution of our service standards at each event. The EOD will understand that the bedrock for great guest experience is a happy, motivated, enthusiastic team who are supported to provide great hospitality and efficient service. Our hire will ensure our team understands that our culinary talent, our guests, our real estate partners, and our brand partners are all clients. We must produce an experience each night that creates value for each of our trusted partners.

Our experiences are executed in a variety of locations, with many evenings having 4-5 events executed simultaneously across our properties. The EOD is responsible for ensuring that the OMs and EL’s are prepared for each day with an organized plan and clear guidance on what they need to execute, how they need to communicate their progress and how their success is defined such that we can celebrate their achievements. Our hire will efficiently and effectively manage their own schedule, and will divide their time effectively between in person support and remote support for their team. They will take the time to ensure that OMs and EL’s that are not physically present with the EOD are still managed effectively and that they feel supported. Since our EOD will not be physically present for the vast majority of events their OMs and EL’s are executing, it is essential that our hire successfully embraces and utilizes technology and utilizes it daily (Monday.com, Slack, Justworks, Ubeya and all future technology that is introduced to our internal structures) to set themselves and their team up for success. Our hire will be an excellent project manager with strong digital, remote, and in-person communication skills. While our hire will immerse themselves in day-to-day operations to identify opportunities and create/implement systems to optimize time, It is imperative that our hire can also delegate both large and small tasks where appropriate to challenge their OMs to grow.

The EOD will also have an integral role in continuing to develop the execution of our product. The EOD will participate in both designing and implementing programs and tools to educate, enhance performance, and celebrate achievements. Our hire will effectively communicate with other departments where necessary, promoting a culture of positivity and a can-do attitude to be a good role model for both senior and junior level colleagues.

Our EOD will also work on various strategic initiatives both defined by the VP of Event Operations and of their own conception, whereby cross-department collaboration and proper task delegation (to EOMs) will be a requirement for successfully completing tasks on a timeline that is mutually agreeable to all parties upon the kickoff of any project. The EOD is encouraged to foster an environment where anyone on their team is encouraged to make suggestions to better the business, and our hire will play a crucial role in bringing approved projects to fruition.
