Job Description

Instructional Coach – Academic

General Job Description Our model aspires to make learning fun and engaging, and to grow the potential of our Teaching Fellows, staff, and students in a supportive environment. Instructional Coaches (ICs) are experienced and successful professional educators who provide content specific support for BTM Teaching Fellows throughout the summer, and engage fully in the BTM community. ICs dictate the level of academic rigor during BTM’s summer program through their interactions with Teaching Fellows. Exemplary ICs effectively communicate content specifics to Teaching Fellows, guide Fellows through effective planning and execution, and hold both Fellows and students to the highest standards. Each IC will have a group of Teaching Fellows in his/her department(s) and is expected to lead department meetings, visit Fellows’ classes at least twice a week, evaluate lesson plans and curriculum overviews, and meet individually with Fellows regarding their on-going work; all the while giving constant feedback and support. Since ICs are the only professional teachers on-site, they are accountable for the quality of instruction BTM students receive, and are responsible for supporting BTM Teaching Fellows through their teaching experiences.

  • Communicate regularly with Site Director to discuss Teaching Fellow progress
  • Plan and lead departmental meetings
  • Lead at least one large group, mid-summer professional development session
  • Engage fully in the BTM community; sharing your passion for teaching, learning, and leading
  • Supporting individual student success with goal setting and documentation
  • Supervise and guide the Teaching Assistants who work with the Teaching Fellows

  • Submit a final evaluation, as well as growth letters for each Teaching Fellow
