An upscale, New American restaurant in Flushing, Queens is opening soon, and Blu Ember is seeking passionate and dedicated SUSHI CHEF .


Must have full time availability & minimum 5 years of hospitality experience in high volume, Japanese restaurants, is preferred.

About Blu Ember

We are a new restaurant which will be opening shortly in Flushing, Queens and are part of the Balance Hospitality Group. The cuisine is inspired by American classics but reinvented through a contemporary lens which incorporates predominantly Asian ingredients & techniques. The restaurant is situated within a hotel and will have service beginning from breakfast, going into lunch, dinner, and ending with a late-night bar menu. The kitchen is being helmed by Chefs who have worked internationally and most recently within the realm of fine dining but have curated a menu which is more approachable and casual for the space.

 

What we would like from you:

  • Expertly cutting, slicing, and filleting different types of fish. Demonstrate exceptional culinary knowledge and skills such as abilities with knife handling, various cooking methods, and use of kitchen equipment
  • Seamlessly work with an energetic and positive kitchen team to prepare and reproduce menu items, which will exceed our guest’s expectations
  • A passion for continuous learning and discovery by embracing an active and innovative approach to expanding your knowledge of Asian ingredients in Food & Beverage
  • Reporting to the Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef regarding all expectations and tasks
  • Follow inventory control procedures to reduce product loss
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the sushi bar & restaurant
  • Help create and maintain a positive work environment for employees as well as guests
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Skills & Conditions

  • Ability to take direction and work in a team environment and to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Must have strong leadership and problem-solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length 
  • Confidently communicate with guests and employees
  • Will work some nights, holidays and weekends
  • Ability to communicate with English proficiency whether written, oral or verbal
